When it comes to Thanksgiving, people often think of the delicious turkey dinner and family gatherings. However, behind this holiday lies an interesting and meaningful historical story. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated as a way to express gratitude for the harvest, but its origins can be traced back to the early 17th century when a group of Pilgrims arrived in North America in search of religious freedom. They established the Plymouth Colony in what is now Massachusetts. Their journey was not easy; due to lack of food and experience adapting to the local environment, many of them lost their lives during the first winter. Fortunately, the Wampanoag tribe, a local Native American group, extended a helping hand by teaching them how to grow corn, hunt, and fish. By the autumn of the following year, the Pilgrims finally had a bountiful harvest and decided to hold a grand feast to celebrate this hard-won achievement, inviting members of the Wampanoag tribe to join them. This feast is considered the first Thanksgiving celebration in American history.
